Role of Distt Collector in Excise Administration
- Responsible for General administration of Excise Department in the district. {Section 10(1) of UP Excise Act}
- Responsible for settlement of retail Liquor vends annually according to the State Excise Policy.
- Acts as licensing authority of different excise licenses. Some Licences are issued after due approval of State Govt/Excise Commissioner.
- Grant of permits and passes as covered in Section 31 to 37 of UP Excise Act 1910
- Responsible for recovery/collection of Excise revenue in the district. (Section-39 of UP Excise Act).
- Various Powers of inspection, search, seizure, issue of warrants are dealt in Section 48 to 59 of the UP Excise Act, 1910.
- Distt Collector has been authorised to close Excise Vends in view of public peace (Section 59 of UP Excise Act, 1910)
- Distt Collector can confiscate excisable articles and vehicles used in illegal trade u/s 72 of UP Excise Act, 1910
